BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - September 26, 2007) - On Friday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. ET, cardiovascular surgeons at Children's Hospital Boston will repair a complex congenital cardiac defect during a live Webcast on Children's hosts three to four Webcasts annually to showcase its pioneering care and technology to specialists and referring clinicians around the world, and to educate consumers on the latest and most innovative medical treatments available.

During the procedure, Pedro J. del Nido, MD, chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and William E. Ladd Professor of Child Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and Emile A. Bacha, MD, cardiac surgeon and associate professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, will walk viewers through the live operation and also discuss compound operations, such as the:

-- "double switch" operation for congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries;

-- cone repair -- a new technique for tricuspid valve repair -- for Ebstein's anomaly;

-- endocardial fibroelastosis resection in borderline left ventricle; and the

-- hybrid procedure for interim management of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

This is second of two Webcasts featured as part of this year's "Frontiers in Diagnosis & Management of Congenital Heart Disease," taking place at Children's Hospital Boston.
