OSSTF/FEESO Makes Plea to the Grand Erie School Board to Reconsider Discontinuing Employee Benefits

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 22, 2009) - A special presentation will be made at the next Regular Meeting of the Grand Erie District School Board on Monday, October 26th, at 7:00 pm. Bruce Hazlewood, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation President of the Grand Erie Teachers' Bargaining Unit, will be making a presentation to the Board requesting them to reconsider their policy on the discontinuation of benefits to employees who turn 65 years of age, but choose to continue to work. The Ontario Secondary Teachers' Federation supported the Ontario legislation that eliminated the mandatory retirement age, but employees who choose to continue to work, should not have their benefits eliminated based upon age. "The experience these employees bring to the classroom should be welcomed, as opposed to being devalued by the discriminatory policy of the Board," stated Bruce Hazlewood.
