OSSTF: Tentative Settlement for Student Services Personnel in Thunder Bay Catholic School Board

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2008) - The Student Services Personnel and Professional Student Services Personnel (SSP/PSSP) Bargaining Unit of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) has negotiated a tentative settlement with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board (TBCDSB). Details of the four year agreement will be released once both parties have completed the ratification process next Tuesday, November 25th.

Maureen Denford-Cox, President of the local SSP/PSSP Bargaining Unit stated, "OSSTF's goal has been to achieve a negotiated settlement and we believe this agreement goes a long way towards addressing the needs identified by our members. We will be recommending it for ratification."

Sandra Sahli, Provincial Executive Officer of OSSTF and Chair of the District 6A, Thunder Bay negotiating team commented, "The commitment by the Ministry of Education to provide funding so boards can meet the need for student support services has opened the door to a successful bargaining process. This settlement with the TBCSB and others elsewhere in the province show what can happen when boards come to the table ready to show respect for their student services personnel and the important contributions they make to student success."

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, attendance counsellors, and many others in education.
