Octasic Announces Immediate Availability of TXP1000 High-Density Video Transcoding Cards

MONTREAL--(Marketwire - May 4, 2010) -  Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of media processing and wireless solutions, today announced the immediate availability of its TXP1000 high-density video transcoding cards, which deliver the lowest power and highest channel density available on the market today. Offered in a PCI Express (PCIe) form factor, the TXP1000 cards enable network service providers and Internet equipment manufacturers to rapidly develop and deploy the most efficient and highest channel density video transcoding systems.

With demand for mobile video on the rise, real-time video transcoding is required to support the myriad of device types, video formats and dynamic bandwidth conditions on the open Internet and mobile networks. To address the system design challenges associated with meeting the computational demands of video transcoding -- particularly in terms of power usage and cost efficiency -- Octasic is delivering a complete solution that includes the PCIe cards, a comprehensive audio/video media processing and transcoding software stack and a host API. A single TXP1000 card easily delivers 335 channels of video transcoding while offering power consumption well within the power budget of a single PCI card.

"Growth in mobile video services like video telephony, video streaming, Interactive Voice and Video Response (IVVR), multimedia messaging, TV anywhere, and mobile conferencing is forcing telecoms, OEMs and Internet equipment providers to rethink their usual approach to media processing," said John Fry, director of business development at Octasic Inc. "Compared to standard x86 server-based solutions that suffer from serious power, cost and scalability limitations, Octasic's TXP1000-based systems provide tangible benefits that can cut video transcoding systems capital costs in half, reduce the power consumption by a factor of 8 and still deliver 5 times more channels per unit of rack space. Octasic is unique in that it has the right combination of low power DSP technology, video expertise and communications technology heritage to successfully meet the demands of this growing market."

"Octasic's TXP1000 products will allow Aylus Networks to offload video and audio transcoding as we scale to the largest network deployments," said William Kwan, vice president of product management at Aylus Networks. "This provides additional processing power for Aylus to deliver high-value services such as media optimization and mobile service enablement."

Built using Octasic's award-winning Vocallo MGW product, TXP1000 cards instantly leverage a broad range of field-hardened communications technology. The media processing software stack provides: H.264, MPEG-4 and H.263 CODEC support from QCIF to HD resolution; dynamic bit-rate and quality adaptation; frame rate and resolution scaling; advanced packet loss concealment; a flexible video mixing engine for conferencing, graphics overlay and stream insertion for video monetization. Backed up by a large portfolio of audio CODECs and voice quality enhancement functions, TXP1000 cards provide a complete toolkit for building video-based communications systems.

"Designing products to meet the broad demands of real-time video communications systems isn't easy when using standard DSP technology," says Alain Legault, vice president of engineering at Octasic. "Many other solutions rely on fixed and inflexible hardware functionality as a crutch. At Octasic, we have pioneered the technologies required to make the lowest power and highest performing video transcoding engine without compromising programmability. All of our algorithms are executed purely in software, meaning that they are future proof and easier to maintain. By bundling Vocallo MGW technology into the TXP1000 form factor, we have enabled a broader range of customers to leverage these fundamental advantages."
