Official Opening Ceremony Faro Canadian Ranger Patrol

YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORY--(Marketwire - Jan. 15, 2010) - Joint Task Force North will perform the official opening ceremony for the 57th Canadian Ranger Patrol in Faro, Yukon.

The opening of our 57th Canadian Ranger Patrol marks another milestone in the history of Canadian Ranger presence in the North. Members from the newly formed Faro Ranger Patrol will provide a valuable service to the Yukon, Canada and the North in protection of our sovereignty. Currently there are over 4400 Canadian Rangers in 163 communities across Canada.

Also in attendance will be Commissioner Geraldine Van Bibber, Hon. Marian Horne, Yukon Minister of Justice, Heather Campbell, Mayor of Faro, along with local dignitaries and special guests.

When: Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Faro Community Recreation Centre

Media are invited to interview reviewing officer, Brigadier General David Millar, Commander, Joint Task Force North, and Major Luc Chang, Commanding Officer, 1 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (1 CRPG), upon completion of the official opening ceremony.

The role fulfilled by the Rangers and staff of 1 CRPG is vital to Canadian sovereignty and to the Canadian Forces presence in the North. The renewed interest in the security and sovereignty of the North means that the Rangers will continue to be at the forefront of Canada's northern presence.
