Olivier's Candies Ltd.: Chocolate Meets Candy-A Sweet Combination

Calgary's oldest confectionary company and the city's most innovative chocolatier have joined forces to create an exciting new venture designed to satisfy the most discriminating sweet tooth.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2007) - Effective October 15th, 2007, Olivier's Candies has purchased the assets of Les Truffes au Chocolat in a move that brings together the skills of old-fashioned traditional candy making with the fine art of European chocolate craftsmanship. The company will continue to operate as Olivier's Candies while retaining the trade name Les Truffes. As part of the sales agreement, Swiss -trained chocolatier Ralph Buchmuller, president and founder of Les Truffes, will take on a key role in the newly constituted company. As Maitre Chocolatier, Mr. Buchmuller will be responsible for production and product innovation. Prior to starting Les Truffes, he held management positions with Lindt & Sprungli Chocolate and Toblerone Chocolate both in Switzerland and the United States. In fact, he also developed Lindt's first North American plant in Stratham, New Hampshire, before moving to Calgary.

"We're very excited to bring Les Truffes and Ralph's expertise into our operation," said Rick Jeffrey, a senior partner with Olivier's. "It adds a whole new dimension to both the retail and wholesale sides of our business."

Olivier's has been a mainstay in Calgary since it was founded in 1909. The company recently moved its manufacturing plant to the Foothills industrial area and it continues to operate a retail outlet in Inglewood. In addition to retail and corporate clientele, the company supplies its wide range of candy products to many major retailers across Western Canada. Les Truffes operates two retail locations; Bankers Hall and Willow Park Village, that feature the company's signature brand of truffles with more than 40 different varieties. The company has also developed a growing franchise in the manufacture of high end chocolate bars including Castle Mountain, an assortment of No-Sugar-Added bars, and O Trois, an innovative organic chocolate bar that is fortified with Omega 3.

"We are particularly excited by the opportunity presented in the O Trois line of products," said Mr. Jeffrey. "This is an industry- leading product that capitalizes on the public's new-found respect for the health benefits of chocolate and Omega 3."

Omega 3 has been found to lower triglycerides and help reduce high cholesterol, while the antioxidant properties of chocolate have recently been highlighted by the medical community. "We look forward to the opportunity to ramp up production of these products and develop a new customer base across the country," Mr. Jeffrey stated further.

The integration of the three retail locations in Calgary will occur over the next few months. By November 1st customers will be able to find an expanded product line in all three stores featuring the best of both companies.
