Omnify Software Is Helping Manufacturers Maintain Market Share With RoHS Compliant Products

Omnify Customers Are Successfully Shipping Compliant Products to European Union

ANDOVER, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 29, 2006 -- Omnify Software, a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software for electronic, medical, mechanical, and defense manufacturers, is helping customers maintain market share and competitive advantage by supporting their continued compliant product development initiatives in meeting the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive that went into effect on July 1, 2006 as well as for impending environmental regulations from other countries.

"The investments in time, resources and technology needed to meet compliance have a costly impact on manufacturers but non-compliance can have an even larger effect with potential loss of sales revenue and altering a company's competitive standing," said Omnify CTO Chuck Cimalore.

Currently, self-declaration is the primary means that the EU is using to enforce the regulations. Palm, Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc., for example, recently discontinued shipping certain non-compliant products to Europe. This resulted in lost sales for both companies. "Manufacturers who have implemented proper product development processes will realize the benefit of their efforts by avoiding the need to pull product from the EU, thus maintaining their market share and being better prepared to meet more stringent regulations on the horizon," continued Cimalore.

Mangrove Systems, an industry leader in multi-service access, aggregation and switching for 3G wireless and wireline networks, elected to leverage Omnify Software for their compliance initiatives. Today, Mangrove is successfully shipping compliant products to the EU, meeting both RoHS-5 and RoHS-6 requirements.

According to Tom Furtado, Mangrove's Operations Manager, "Omnify Software has been instrumental in accelerating our RoHS compliance by providing strict document control for parts as required by the EU directive. With Omnify, Mangrove's geographically distributed manufacturing partners are able to view components and their corresponding RoHS documentation in real-time to maintain a shorter procurement cycle and faster time-to-production which can have enormous ramifications on productivity in systems manufacturing."

Some manufacturers have been intimidated by the cost and logistics of implementing a PLM solution, according to Cimalore. "This is no longer an issue as there are systems available, such as Omnify Software, that are cost efficient and don't require a huge IT infrastructure to manage. RoHS guidelines are not temporary and new regulations are already emerging throughout the world. The face of manufacturing is rapidly changing and companies expecting to compete need to rise to the challenge now," he added.
