On National Day of Remembrance, ScanCafe Offers Veterans a Unique Way to Preserve and Share Their Memories

Photo Scanning Service Offers a Special Discount to Veterans During the Month of December

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 7, 2007) - As Veterans and their families look back on the events of December 7, 1941, many remember the sacrifices they endured while in the service of our country. Although a difficult time for many, others manage to find solace in the treasured and historical moments they captured on film while on their tours of duty. In honor of those who have served our country, ScanCafe is offering a veteran discount of 10 percent on all photo scanning orders made through December 31, 2007.

Keith Raley, a former aviator in the U.S. Coast guard, took many photos during his tours overseas. In an effort to preserve those photos -- which had begun to fade with age -- he recently turned to ScanCafe to have them scanned and restored so he could share them with family and friends.

"Some of my favorite historical photos have been restored thanks to ScanCafe," said Raley. "Through my years as an aviator in the Coast Guard, taking pictures helped me capture some of the moments, people and views I wanted to remember. Up until recently, those photos were fading away in my closet. After sending a box of photos to ScanCafe, I've been able to share those historic moments with friends and family, and I've preserved the photos for my children and grandchildren."

Like Raley, many veterans have turned to ScanCafe's online service to take the legwork out of scanning their hard photos, negatives and slides. ScanCafe manually scans, professionally organizes and restores all photos and provides customers with access to a secure online library to view and select their newly digitized images. Customers are only required to pay for the images they wish to keep, (with a 50 percent minimum commitment) and all selected images are scanned to a DVD or CD and shipped back to the customer along with all originals. Converting old images makes for a great way to truly enjoy military unit reunions.

ScanCafe CEO and US Marine Corps veteran, Sam Allen, reminds people to take time at the end of the year to reflect on what is important: "The holidays and end of year events are primarily a time to revel with friends and family; but they are also a time of remembrance. December 7th is an important date to all Americans, but it is of utmost importance to veterans because it is a single date reflective of the sacrifices they have made. I have digitized all of my own images from my days in the Marines and have shared them with my old unit mates. Digitizing these old images not only preserves them for posterity, but it allows them to be shared across time zones and continents. Military memories are poignant and deserve a special place in our personal archives -- they shouldn't be left in closets to be viewed by a very few."
