Rod Barr, FCA, President and CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, will be available to comment on any provincial initiatives to strengthen Toronto's status as a leading North American financial services centre announced in the 2010 Ontario Speech from the Throne on Monday, March 8, 2010.

On February 25, at the Liberal Heritage Dinner in Toronto, Premier Dalton McGuinty noted that the Greater Toronto Area was already North America's third largest financial centre with 350,000 people working in key industries such as accounting, banking and insurance, and asked: "Why couldn't we come together, industry and government, and commit ourselves to a strategy to make Toronto one of the world's elite financial centres?"

As a member of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance (TFSA), the Ontario CA Institute is a strong supporter of its goal of enhancing the competitiveness of the GTA's financial services sector. "We welcome new provincial initiatives that help strengthen this key economic sector, which already is providing great career opportunities across the region and beyond," said Barr. "A strong Toronto financial services sector benefits the entire province."
