OpenLogic Launches OLEX App Store Edition to Help App Store Proprietors and Developers With Open Source License Compliance
BROOMFIELD, CO--(Marketwire - September 13, 2010) - OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software support and governance solutions encompassing hundreds of open source packages, today announced the launch of OLEX App Store Edition, a set of products and services aimed at helping developers and application store proprietors identify and comply with open source licenses.
OpenLogic recently analyzed over 450 top applications for the iPhone, iPad and Android phones. OpenLogic found the following information
- Open source was detected in 88% of Android apps and 41% of iPhone/iPad apps
- Open source licenses found included GPL, Apache, MIT and BSD
- GPL type licenses were found in 8% of iPhone/iPad apps and 3% of Android apps
"The number of application stores, both mobile and traditional, have skyrocketed over the past few years and our research shows that open source is being widely used in these apps," said Steve Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic. "Open source licenses have clear requirements, but many app developers and application store proprietors don't have the tools or processes in place to ensure open source license compliance. OpenLogic OLEX App Store Edition makes it easy."
OLEX App Store Edition is based on OpenLogic's SaaS scanning & compliance solutions and includes services that tie OLEX into existing application store submission processes. The OLEX App Store provides both developers and app store proprietors with a clear look at license requirements of open source software included in their applications.
The OLEX App Store Edition leverages OpenLogic's Deep Discovery scanning solution, first announced in December 2009, which is increasingly recognized for being a next generation open source scanner known for its greater accuracy and ease of use.
OpenLogic App Store Edition includes:
App Store Compliance Portal: Application store proprietors can use this portal to set policies for allowed open source usage licenses, scan and validate all submitted software against those policies, define and automate approval workflows and ensure open source license compliance.
Developer Compliance Portal: Developers submitting software to an App Store can use this portal to scan their software and check for compliance with open source licenses and App Store policies.
App Store APIs: OpenLogic makes integrating its OLEX App Store Edition into existing application submission processes very easy through a set of web services and APIs.
Services: OpenLogic can also provide advisory services, technical service, developer support services and audit services to help manage the ongoing license compliance process.
