Operation Care-Dallas Hosts the Nation's Largest Christmas Party for the Homeless

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - December 11, 2009) -

WHAT: 'Tis the season' for sharing the spirit of Christmas -- Operation Care-Dallas will host the nation's largest Christmas party for the homeless at the Dallas Convention Center next weekend. Last year, more than 10,000 individuals and families from shelters across the Metroplex attended, some lining up outside the Dallas Convention Center at dawn.

Attendees will receive free medical care, food, gifts, makeovers, haircuts, shoes and entertainment. Invaluable resources such as job counseling, housing, medical and legal assistance are also available.

The organization seeks eager volunteers and donated items. This ambitious undertaking requires volunteers willing to give time, energy and resources to ensure the event's success.

WHEN: Saturday, December 19, 2009

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Volunteers needed as early as 8 AM -- Go to Hall A and sign in with the front desk. Volunteer Waiver Form here

Packing and cleanup 3-5 PM

WHERE: Dallas Convention Center

Downtown Dallas -- 650 South Griffin Street; corner of South Griffin and Memorial

Parking -- free outside lots, metered parking, $10 under Convention Center

Saturday, December 12 - Volunteers are needed to sort boxes of donated items, assemble health care kits and sort shoes. For more information, directions to the warehouse and to register online visit the Operation Care-Dallas website, or contact a representative at or 972- 681-3567.

Sunday, December 13 - Volunteer informational meeting 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Heritage Chapel, First Baptist Church, 1707 San Jacinto, Dallas, TX 75201.

December 14-18 - Volunteers needed to pick up donated items from around the Metroplex and to begin decorating the Convention Center.

Friday, December 18 - Help decorate the Convention Center. Volunteers needed at 1:00 PM.

Saturday, December 19 - The opportunities are endless -- volunteers needed to help with the kids' area, to serve as bus captains, distribute gifts and much more. Physicians, nurses, dentists, and other medical personnel are asked to check with their organization as Baylor Medical Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center, VA Hospital and Parkland Hospital will provide free health screenings.
