Jean-Guy Rousseau, FCA, chair of the Recognition Award selection committee, presented the prestigious Recognition Award - University Teaching 2009 to Sylvie Deslauriers, CA, during the Conference of the Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec held on Saturday at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in the Charlevoix region.

The evening was also an opportunity to present the Recognition Award - Public Sector to Bernard Beauchesne, CA, and the Recognition Award - Young CA Leader to Stephane Lefebvre, CA.

The purpose of the Recognition Award - University Teaching is to promote excellence in the teaching of the accounting sciences, more specifically in financial accounting, management accounting, assurance, taxation and other related fields. It is intended to recognize the commitment and dedication of CAs who ensure that candidates of the highest quality enter the profession and that the accounting sciences continue to advance and develop in innovative fields.

Sylvie Deslauriers, CA, is a professor of accounting sciences at the Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, where she has been working since 1988. For the past 24 years, she has devoted her time to preparing Quebec candidates for the Uniform Evaluation, the CA profession's entrance exam. A number of public accounting firms also rely on her services.

She was the recipient of the UQTR recognition award for teaching in 2001, as well as the Alain Blizzard award in 2000 for her exemplary contribution to educational research and student learning.

Sylvie Deslauriers has published numerous educational and scientific works that have contributed to the advancement of the CA profession. Her book entitled Comptabilisez vos succes! earned her an award from the Ministere de l'Education du Quebec in 2003. The French version of the book is currently used in all Quebec universities, while the English version is becoming increasingly popular in markets outside the province.

With a membership of close to 17,600 CAs and 1,900 candidates for the practice of the profession, the Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec carries out its primary mission to protect the public by enforcing the most demanding admission criteria and ethical standards.
