Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation Commits a Minimum of $600,000 to Local Charities

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 2, 2009) - The Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation (ODBF) has selected seven local charities to provide funds to over the next three years. A minimum of $600,000 will be dispersed among these seven organizations. The recipient charities are as follows:

Sens Foundation/Project S.T.E.P

Bruyere Foundation

The Ottawa Humane Society

University of Ottawa Institute
of Mental Health Research

Debra Dynes Family House

"The ODBF is committed to helping local charities grow and succeed," said Jennifer Mackiddie, Foundation Coordinator. "We believe in helping local charities that are both big and small."

The ODBF will raise funds over the next three years via its Pledge Challenge. The campaign is a chance for paddlers to fundraise and give back to the community. While teams enjoy the paddling aspect, many participate especially because of their desire to help local charities thrive.

"Team Show Boat concentrates most of its efforts on fundraising. In the process, we feed off each other's enthusiasm and create opportunities to meet other paddlers while raising money for our community," comments Richard Martin, team Show Boat captain.

In 2009 The Kott Lumber Royals raised an impressive $27,500 and Raymond Kwok of the Scotiabank Spitfires was the top individual raising a total of $8,300. The 2010 Pledge Challenge goal is $350,000.
