Outstanding Educators Honoured by the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 22, 2010) - On April 23, 2010 the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario (CPCO) will recognize the recipients of its annual awards in Windsor during CPCO's annual gala dinner. Regional Principal of the Year awards will be presented to the following members: Jim Minello and Brian Rivait, Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board; Paul DiFrancesco, Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board; Carlos Silva, Kenora Catholic District School Board; Brendan Hyatt, Northwest Catholic District School Board; and Violet Neheli, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board. Each of these individuals has worked tirelessly on behalf of Catholic education, not only in their school communities but throughout their school boards. They have made every effort to champion the work and successes experienced by the children in their care and the staffs they work with on a daily bases.

John Stunt, executive director of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association will receive the Father John Redmond Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to Catholic education in the province of Ontario. Throughout his career, John has been an advocate for Catholic education and for the children and staff in his care. During his tenure at OCSTA, John forged partnerships and reciprocal agreements with a wide variety of education stakeholders to further the mission of OCSTA "to promote and protect Catholic education." Recognition of his leadership has earned him several awards including the B.E. Nelligan Award and Honorary Lifetime Membership Award from the Association of Parents in Catholic Education.

Julia Pellerin, principal of St. Christopher's School, Oshawa, in the Durham Catholic District School Board is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions to the membership of the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario, locally and provincially. As a teacher and administrator, Julia has always felt compelled to serve her colleagues on the executive councils or committees of the organizations to which she has belonged. Her willingness to share her wide range of experience and knowledge has served the principals and vice-principals in Durham and across the province well.

Joan Duckitt, principal of St. David School in Dorchester, London District Catholic School Board will be honoured with the Past-president's Award for her six years of service on the provincial executive. Joan served as CPCO president from July 2008 to June 2009. During her tenure on the executive council, Joan served as the liaison for several committees. As president, she was a passionate advocate for principals and vice-principals. She worked tirelessly to put into practice the recommendations outlined in their 2008 Ontario Leadership Strategy as well as the recommendation to improve terms and conditions of employment for principals and vice-principals which today are embedded in PPM 152.
