Overland Park Chiropractic & Internal Medicine Specialist Reviews Shoes for National Foot Awareness Month

OVERLAND PARK, KS--(Marketwire - April 16, 2010) -  Don't feel guilty about those new shoes you just bought. They may be good for your back. In honor of National Foot Awareness Month, Dr. Robert Patterson of Overland Chiropractic reviews the best ways to shop for shoes and how to put your best foot forward.

Patterson explains that you can prevent chronic back pain by buying the right shoes and one of the most important tips is buying shoes later during the day. "Shopping for shoes is best done in the afternoon because feet tend to swell as the day goes on. If we don't have the right shoes, our foot functions can change, and we shift stress to our knees, hips and spine. This can lead to arthritis, joint replacements and permanent back problems," said Dr. Patterson.

Additionally, Patterson notes that generic inserts can be used anytime to prevent back pain, but certain problems may call for custom orthotics. "Most people will develop fallen arches over a period of time. You may have noticed your feet getting larger. When this happens, or when you are experiencing other joint pain, orthotics are a good idea," he said.

During the month of April 2010, Dr. Patterson will be conducting free screenings at his Overland Chiropractic office and will be offering $50 discounts on inserts as part of Foot Awareness Month. The promotion is available via the Overland Chiropractic e-newsletter. Sign up at www.overlandchiro.mobi/blog.
