P & P Data and Its Clients to Benefit From $236 Million EMR Funding Program Announced by Ontario Medical Association

Company Is One Of Eleven Vendors Selected To Benefit Ontario's Citizens

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 6, 2009) - P & P Data Systems (www.p-pdata.com), a leading developer of paperless solutions for the medical industry, today announced the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) has successfully negotiated $236 million with the government of Ontario that will link the province's doctors to electronic medical records over the next three years.

The $236 million investment was made in July by eHealth Ontario. Under the program's terms, doctors in Ontario can apply for a grant of nearly $30,000 to purchase either a local electronic medical records system (from one of eleven approved vendors - P & P being one of them) or a system tied into eHealth Ontario's server.

"There is pent-up demand for this program," said Dr. Suzanne Strasberg, President of the Ontario Medical Association. "Ensuring that electronic medical records are available in every doctor's office is an important step towards improving and strengthening Ontario's health care system."

According to the OMA, all practice based primary care physicians and specialists are eligible for the program. The program will provide one time and monthly funding, as well as transition and adoption support services. Furthermore, early EMR adopters, who helped expand and evolve the program are also eligible for a monthly funding subsidy to upgrade their EMRs to the latest certified specification.

A centralized, easily accessible, and secure patient information network is critical to putting patient information at the center of any clinical environment. With data stored locally at each clinic's facility, P & P's value proposition delivers its clients numerous benefits including:

  • Immediate access to information, since it is all stored at each clinic's physical facility
  • Sharing of patient information everywhere assessment, diagnosis and treatment decisions occur.
  • Reduced costs by shortening billing cycles and other core administrative and clinical operations - including storage and copying costs of medical records.
  • Direct data entry by clinicians and staff greatly reduces transcription costs. Direct links to transcription systems also saves time.
  • Creation of higher quality documentation
  • Minimization and in many cases, elimination of issues of incorrect or conflicting drug prescriptions.
  • EMR systems greatly aid clinicians in immediate patient treatment and in capturing key information.
  • More complete records helps clinicians and staff to avoid mistakes and to manage the cost of malpractice insurance.

"We are truly grateful to Ontario's Provincial Government as well as OntarioMD for its unwavering support of electronic medical records as well as for bringing the benefits of the electronic doctor's office to Ontarians," said Moshe Pinhas, President, P & P Data. "As a result of our more than 25 years in the space, our unsurpassed technical understanding, and our nimble development methodologies, we are well positioned to take advantage of these conditions. Our technology is ready, our processes are in place and are well honed thanks to our products' various certifications."

"This announcement caps a stellar year," added Pinhas. "We gained our ISO 13485 certification which has allowed our flagship product (Clinical Information Systems) to have gained its class two medical device license. This valuable certification will help ensure we maintain our leadership position as Ontario's highest ranked EMR solution."
