PDC Partners With Canpages to Deliver Local Search Across North America

PDC and Canpages create new local search and technology alliance

OREM, UTAH--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2010) - Phone Directories Company (PDC), a directories publisher for more than 30 years and Canpages Inc., Canada's fastest growing local search firm announced today the formation of a North America-wide local search alliance between the organizations' combined 1,400 employees and revenues of $180 million.

The partnership will allow PDC to leverage Canpages' extensive online and mobile local search technologies as well as research and development to offer PDC's existing and new advertisers a host of digital marketing tools and products. Canpages will help accelerate and extend PDC's predominantly print-focused business into the digital local search realm. As part of this partnership, PDC's local search platform, will re-launch as and the company will re-brand itself as Ziplocal.

Under the terms of the partnership, PDC and Canpages will form a common management team led by Olivier Vincent, Canpages CEO, who will become CEO of both companies. James Rumble, Canpages' CFO, will become CFO of both companies. Mike Bynum, PDC's current CEO will take the role of PDC's President of US Sales; and Geri Suster, PDC's Vice President of Operations, will become Vice President of Operations of the combined organizations.

According to industry data, 2.8 million businesses in the US relied on Yellow Pages as an advertising medium in 2009(1) and 66% of adults referred to Yellow Pages in a typical month(2). And while print remains strong, online and mobile local search is experiencing unprecedented double-digit growth. In 2008, local search grew 58 percent reaching an annual total of 15.7 billion searches(3).

It intends to leverage many of these technologies into the US through its partnership with PDC.
