PWGSC: Canada's New Government Announces $528,190 Contract for Wharf Reconstruction in Arnold's Cove

ARNOLD'S COVE, NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 5, 2007) - A contract worth $528,190 is awarded to Trident Construction Limited of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, to reconstruct the finger pier wharf in Arnold's Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The announcement was made today by the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

Awarded on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed in January 2007. Federal contracts are open to all companies to bid on and are evaluated fairly, meaning any company - large or small - can compete and win.

"The New Government of Canada awards contracts to companies from all regions and I am happy to see a company from Newfoundland and Labrador win in a competitive process," said Minister Hearn. "The work being done at Arnold's Cove is a significant investment to improve infrastructure for the fishing industry."

The project consists of repairs to damaged treated timber cribwork at the headblock section of the existing wharf, including installation of underwater concrete and new treated timber fender piles. The company will remove three deteriorated treated timber bearing piles and select timber fender piles at approach. In addition, the company will remove and replace the entire deteriorated concrete deck, coping, wheelguard, bracing, select untreated fender system, salvage and reinstall mooring cleats, as well as provide for electrical shore power and area site lighting.
