Park Place Shopping Centre in Alberta Signs on for 100 Per Cent Local Wind Power With Bullfrog Power

LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 3, 2010) - Bullfrog Power, Canada's 100 per cent green electricity provider, today announced that Park Place Shopping Centre, located in Lethbridge, Alberta, has signed on its common areas, food court and offices for 100 per cent made-in-Alberta wind power. The decision is the next significant step in the organization's environmental plan—and one that Park Place hopes will inspire others to action. By signing on for green electricity with Bullfrog Power, Park Place will reduce its impact on the environment and help to create a cleaner energy future for Alberta by supporting the province's growing renewable power industry.

"Choosing 100 per cent Alberta wind power with Bullfrog Power reflects our commitment to the environment and to the future of the community in which we live," said Daryl Babb, General Manager, Park Place Shopping Centre. "We believe that our shopping centre has an important role to play in promoting positive choices, and we hope that our decision to support green electricity inspires others to take personal action for the environment."

In Alberta, Bullfrog's power comes exclusively from local wind power facilities that have been certified by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program. Through the agreement, Bullfrog's generators inject wind power onto the regional grid to match the amount of power Park Place's common areas, food court and offices use.

In addition to bullfrogpowering areas within its facility, Park Place has implemented a centre-wide Waste Diversion Plan that is designed to reduce the facility's waste by 80 per cent, and includes initiatives such as reusing and recycling materials. In addition, the mall has installed low flow water fixtures and energy efficiency lighting, and chooses low-VOC paints when able. Customized parking stalls have been installed to accommodate patrons who drive plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

"We're delighted to be working with Park Place Shopping Centre as the organization takes its environmental plan to the next level," said Theresa Howland, Vice President, Western Region, Bullfrog Power. "By choosing to support clean, emissions-free wind power generated right here in Alberta, Park Place is taking real action to reduce its environmental footprint and helping to demonstrate what others can do to address climate change."
