Parsons Project Wins 2009 Bridge Award of Excellence From American Segmental Bridge Institute

PASADENA, CA--(Marketwire - February 11, 2010) - Parsons is pleased to announce that the Maroon Creek Bridge replacement project won a 2009 Bridge Award of Excellence from the American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI). This project was one of five projects honored by ASBI nationwide and was judged on the following criteria: innovation of design and/or construction, rapid construction, cost competitiveness, minimization of construction impact on the traveling public, and aesthetics/harmony with the environment.

Selected by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Parsons designed the 620-ft-long replacement bridge to complement the existing historic structure. The bridge features a 270-ft main span supported by A-shaped piers 100 feet above the Maroon Creek basin in Aspen, Colorado.

"Parsons is pleased to have worked with CDOT on the Maroon Creek Bridge replacement project, and we are truly honored that ASBI recognized the bridge for being an outstanding example of segmental concrete bridge construction," stated Tom Barron, Parsons Group President.

Maroon Creek Bridge was built on a fast-track schedule in adherence to environmental and funding requirements. The project also included extensive public involvement.

"Parsons' design team did an amazing job of compressing a 12-month design process into less than 5 months," said Joe Elsen, CDOT Program Engineer. "And with regards to the finished product, the structure fits harmoniously with the surrounding environment, especially the way that it pays homage to the adjacent, historic 1888 trestle."
