Parvus to Unveil Revolutionary Vision-Based Passenger Counter at APTA Bus and Paratransit Conference

Parvus to Demo RiderNet APC, New Stereoscopic Vision People Counter for Bus and Rail Transit

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - May 1, 2008) - Parvus Corporation announced it will introduce its new RiderNet® APC vision-based passenger counter at the Bus and Paratransit Conference of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) being held next week in Austin, Texas (May 4-7). A demo will be available at the Parvus showcase booth.

RiderNet APC represents one of the world's first automatic passenger counter sensor devices to use vision technology for counting people. The product integrates two embedded cameras (stereoscopic) that "watch" passengers as they embark/disembark from public transit vehicles and delivers highly precise ridership metrics, up to 98% accurate. This innovative technology enables systems integrators to deliver highly accurate automatic passenger counting systems (APC) to their public transit customers for use in National Transit Database reporting.

Each sensor can operate as a stand-alone device with integrated count storage, or devices can be networked together in various configurations and connected to on-board computers for real-time counting applications. Device configuration is simple and can be done easily in the field by installers or technicians.

Only one device is required above each standard size bus door ( < 48 in.), so installation is much simpler than complicated infrared/optical or pressure/treadle sensors that require installation in multiple locations per door. Further, the sensor is designed specifically for systems integrators so all software and protocol data is openly available for easy integration into existing systems.

As reliable operation and high availability is important in systems for public transportation, the Ridernet APC incorporates rugged metal construction with a wide operating temperature range. The unit is intended to work together with an on-board vehicle server that can pre-process, store and upload information from the vehicle passenger counters. Parvus' Ridernet³ wireless access points and DuraCOR® 1100 vehicle computers can be used for this purpose, while performing various other on-board computation or data storage tasks such as vehicle tracking, security and surveillance, diagnostics and fleet monitoring, real-time fare collection communication as well as general information services.
