Peak of the Market Receives 2008 Agri-Food Award of Excellence!

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2008) - On Monday, a number of outstanding Canadians were honoured with the presentation of the Canadian Agri-Food Awards of Excellence. The awards ceremony held in Toronto was co-hosted by Dr. Rob McLaughlin, President of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and Guy Lauzon, Member of Parliament on behalf of the Honourable Gerry Ritz, Federal Minister of Agriculture.

Peak of the Market's Larry McIntosh was on hand at the awards Luncheon held during the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Larry accepted the 2008 Canadian Agri-Food Award of Excellence for Exports on behalf of Peak of the Market for its' achievements in securing new and expanding export markets.

"Being chosen to receive this award out of all the Agri-Food companies in Canada is overwhelming. I am very proud to accept this on behalf of our growers and all my co-workers," said Larry McIntosh, President & CEO of Peak of the Market. "Key to Peak of the Market's success is an exceptional focus on maintaining strong relationships with our customers locally and internationally."

Over the past two years, Peak of the Market has increased export volume by over 90%! At a time when transportation costs and a high Canadian dollar have hampered exports, Peak of the Market continues to show strong growth. This past year, over 87 million pounds of Manitoba grown vegetables were exported making it the highest amount in the company's 66-year history.

"Peak of the Market is proudly Manitoban and proudly Canadian," McIntosh stated. "While our international markets are essential to the continued growth of the company we will never forget, or take for granted, the support Manitobans have given us. Without that support we could not succeed internationally."

This is the eighth annual Canadian Agri-Food Awards of Excellence, run by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The awards recognize outstanding achievements and leadership in six categories: voluntarism, youth leadership, innovation, agri-food export, environmental stewardship and agricultural awareness and education.

"It just goes to prove, once again, that the Canadian agriculture and agri-food industry is the best in the world," said Mr. Lauzon. "These awards recognize outstanding achievement in the sector and I congratulate the winners for their notable achievements."

"I'm proud to see the scope of the creativity, innovation and inventiveness represented by these worthy award winners," said Dr. Rob McLaughlin. "The Royal is proud to showcase such excellent Canadian talent and innovation."
