PetSmart Charities® Celebrates 4-Millionth Pet Adoption

Rescued Collie-Mix Who Faced Euthanasia at Crowded Shelter Is Now in a Lifelong, Loving Home

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - January 5, 2010) - PetSmart Charities® is celebrating an amazing milestone: the 4-millionth adoption from a PetSmart Charities Adoption Center in the United States.

WHO: PetSmart Charities and "Chloe," the 4-millionth pet adopted,
as well as Chloe's new family, the Jancareks, of Randolph, N.J.,
and Eleventh Hour Rescue in Rockaway, N.J.
WHAT: Celebration of the 4-millionth pet adopted from a PetSmart
         Charities Adoption Center
WHERE: PetSmart® store, 367 Mount Hope Avenue, Rockaway, N.J.
WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010
WHY: To celebrate this milestone adoption and shed light on how
adoption can help end the tragedy of euthanasia. In the U.S.
alone, an estimated 6 to 8 million dogs and cats enter animal
shelters each year and about 5 million never find homes.
Established in 1994, PetSmart Charities, Inc. is an independent,
nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that creates and supports
programs that save the lives of homeless pets, raise awareness
of companion animal-welfare issues, and promote healthy
relationships between people and pets. The largest funder of
animal-welfare efforts in North America, PetSmart Charities
has provided more than $88 million in grants and programs
benefiting animal-welfare organizations and, through its
in-store adoption program, helped save the lives of more than
         4 million pets.
DETAILS: Chloe was adopted at the PetSmart store in Rockaway from Eleventh
Hour Rescue -- an all-volunteer, nonprofit agency that takes in
dogs who are slated for euthanasia at shelters that can no longer
care for them. Representatives from Eleventh Hour Rescue will be
on hand during the celebration this Saturday, along with the
Jancarek family and Chloe. Media is invited to attend and
