Petaluma, California Launches Accela Solution to Put Citizens' Interests First

Web-Based Asset Management Solution Helps Ensure Peak Performance of Critical Community Resources

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - September 26, 2007) - The City of Petaluma, California announced its launch of Accela Asset Management™ from Accela, Inc. to provide its Public Works department an integrated e-government solution for tracking and managing city assets and resources and making the city more responsive to citizens.

The solution supports asset inventory, work orders, parts management, and preventative maintenance schedules -- activities that had formerly been performed in the city using a mix of paper, spreadsheet, and desktop database systems. Petaluma's search for a solution that could support multi-organizational implementations coincided with the City Council setting a goal for implementation of a work order/service request system that would better serve its citizens.

Accela's Web-based asset and work management solution can be applied to an unlimited number and type of assets and is being utilized initially for the city's 4,600 streetlights. The next phase of the launch will enable the public to submit "Light Out" service requests via the Internet, and will be extended to tracking traffic signals and park assets.

To support its business processes, Petaluma also utilizes Accela Wireless™, a mobile government software application that allows field supervisors to create, assign, complete, reschedule, record costs, and/or cancel work orders from the field. In this case, the application is being leveraged as an asset data collection tool to inventory the city's thousands of streetlights.

"We are excited to be one of the first agencies to go live with Accela Asset Management," said Steven Carmichael, Administrative Services Director. "The product coupled with the Accela Wireless product empowers our field staff and will allow us to provide quicker responses to citizen requests. We look forward to working with Accela to further expand our use of Accela Asset Management, and the addition of Accela GIS and Citizen Access."

"Petaluma was one of the first jurisdictions to implement our flagship product, Accela Automation, for its permitting and land management activities and continues to demonstrate its vision in utilizing the latest technology to connect citizens to government services," said Maury Blackman, Accela's president and CEO. "The City's launch of our Web-based asset management solution signals great things ahead for the people who live and do business there, and will serve as an excellent example for other communities looking for faster and more effective ways to serve the public."

Additional Accela solutions slated to be launched in Petaluma in the coming months include:

Accela GIS™ -- Seamlessly integrates with Accela Automation to provide powerful real-time visual analysis to enhance land use, zoning, and infrastructure data. It allows creation of multiple map layers, automated map analysis, parcel and asset inventory management, direct editing of GIS data or files, and auto-distribution of information to mailing lists. It is built on the ArcIMS™ platform by ESRI®.

Accela Citizen Access™ -- Provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to agency permit and land management activities. Online permit applications can be configured to allow citizens and businesses access to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
