Petaquilla Copper Ltd. Welcomes Dr. Marcel Salamin to its Board of Directors

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2007) - Petaquilla Copper Ltd. ("Petaquilla" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marcel Salamin to the Company's Board of Directors. Dr. Salamin brings over 35 years of experience, primarily in international affairs, working closely with leaders of Latin America and Europe.

Dr. Salamin, a well known scholar in Latin America and a University professor for many years, served as Dean of the Diplomatic and International School in the University of Panama. He also served as political adviser to the Panamanian General Omar Torrijos Herrera, Chief of the Government of Panama between 1976 and 1981, and in that position was appointed as General Director of the Coclesito Project for the region in which Petaquilla's mine district is located. He has also participated in numerous international missions such as the negotiation of the Panama Canal 1977 Torrijos-Carter Treaties, as facilitator to solve the American hostage crisis with Iran and as a key promoter of the peace settlement in Central America during the civil wars that brought turmoil to the region in the 1970s. In 1979, Dr. Salamin was appointed as Ambassador to Nicaragua and in 1980-81 acted as Ambassador At-Large to the United States of America during the last year of Jimmy Carter's presidential term. From 1986 to 1988, he acted as Ambassador to Venezuela and from 1989 to 1993 was appointed as Adviser for International Affairs for Carlos Andres Perez, former President of Venezuela. In addition, from December 1997 to December 1999, Dr. Salamin was appointed as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama and during that period acted in some occasions as Acting Minister.

After being designated as Vice Rector of the Universidad Especializada de las Americas in 2000, Dr. Salamin was appointed by Mr. Martin Torrijos, current President of the Republic of Panama, as Counsellor for National Security Affairs (2004 - 2006) and, subsequently, as Public Security & National Defense Council Assistant Secretary (2006 - 2007).

Dr. Salamin holds a PhD in Political Sciences, a degree obtained at the University of Padua, Italy, where he graduated with high honors (Summa Cum Laude). He speaks Spanish, Italian, English, French, and understands Portuguese. As an academician, Dr. Salamin has written many books, articles and dictated conferences in Panama and in Latin America. Happily married for more than 40 years to Dr. Judith Millan, they have two daughters.
