Phoenix College-Downtown Offering New Solar Training Course Program

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - April 13, 2010) -  Phoenix College-Downtown is expanding their "Green Training" offerings. This new Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Training course and National Certificate exam will open doors for new opportunities in "Alternative Energy," "Green Jobs" and other "Renewable Energy" fields. This course is especially created for a person with NO knowledge of electricity or prior electrical experience and bringing students to understanding the basics of electricity and understanding solar energy producing technology and component parts. There are no prerequisites but a person must possess a solid foundation of basic math.

Phoenix College is adding their new Solar Training course to their present "Green" courses: Energy Audit Training, LEED exam Prep class and Sustainable Building Advisor Program.

The new Solar Training program starts on April 29th at the downtown campus and will run Monday through Friday 8AM until 5PM every day. Phoenix College-Downtown is located at 640 N 1st Avenue in the heart of the city.

This program is an approved WIA funded program for qualifying individuals through Phoenix Workforce Connections One Stop offices.

This class is an intense and thorough class covering Photovoltaic (PV) devices, many PV applications, and basic knowledge of solar electricity suitable for a supervised, entry-level position with a dealer and/or installer or other PV industry companies. Earning an Entry Level Exam Certificate will demonstrate the student has gained the understanding, comprehension and concepts of PV system operations as recognized by North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

This class is different from other solar training classes by offering a "Hands On" section. Students will be shown and experience how the entire PV system is assembled, how component parts are wired together, students assemble the array then wire the system and mount the component parts, demonstration of trouble shooting steps, commission steps taken with system activation "heated up."
