Pizza Pizza Marks National Pizza Month With Fundraiser and Activities in Ontario & Quebec

Slices that Spread a Community-Wide Smile

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2007) - Canada and the United States have their differences - the date on which Thanksgiving is celebrated being one of them - but they are in total agreement in marking October as pizza month.

In fact, this year is the 20th anniversary of the U.S. Congress declaring October as national pizza month, and in the ensuing years, the observance has also become an October tradition in Canada, much like the World Series and the return of National Hockey League games.

At Pizza Pizza, Canada's leading pizza maker for delivery and slices sold, national pizza month festivities will be highlighted by a fund-raising effort on October 17, in collaboration with customers. Participating Pizza Pizza restaurants will be offering a cheese slice for $1.75, a $1.10 discount, and a medium cheese pizza for $5, a $2.75 discount with a portion of proceeds going to Pizza Pizza's Slices for Smiles Fund. The newly-launched program will focus on raising funds to help sustain, nourish and brighten the lives of our most precious resource - children.

"We're aiming to raise over $25,000 in this initial fundraiser on October 17th," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "Through Slices for Smiles, we hope to partner with organizations that provide fundamental building blocks of life - education, healthcare, nutrition and social support - to children, nationally and globally, enhancing their potential to achieve a better quality of life."

The first such partnership is with Big Brothers Big Sisters, an organization that provides direct service to more than 23,000 children by matching them to adult volunteers in quality mentoring relationships.

"We are thrilled to be selected as the first charity partner. In addition to garnering community support and raising funds, Pizza Pizza will increase awareness of our great need for volunteers in all local communities." says Cathy Denyer, President, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto. "Across Ontario and Quebec, our challenge is to provide service to the thousands of children who are waiting."

In addition to the money raised through pizza sales, Pizza Pizza will consider numerous other areas of support including food donations, cause promotion and fundraising in close to 300 restaurants though in-store donation boxes for people that wish to contribute to the Slices for Smiles Fund.

"This year, Pizza Pizza is celebrating its 40th anniversary and we wanted to do something special to commemorate this milestone during national pizza month," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "We are very much a community-oriented company that has always been eager to give back to people and the many support organizations throughout the country. The October 17 initiative is one way of being able to lend a helping hand.

"Eating pizza is an enjoyable experience at any time. But this October, during national pizza month at Pizza Pizza, there is even more enjoyment knowing that you are also contributing to an extremely worthy, community-related cause."
