Population Invited to Attend Free Activities on the Theme of Peace Within the Context of the Dalai Lama's Visit to Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2009) - Some 20 Quebec youth and education organizations promoting peace invite the public to the "Tools of Peace" event. Participation by the public in activities organized around the Dalai Lama's October 3 conference are free. The programming will be launched September 18th with the screening of a series of films on the theme of peace at Cinema du Parc.

"Education around peace must be available to everyone," said Normand Beaudet, President of the Resource Centre on Non-violence, the organization mandated by the Dalai Lama Foundation to organize the series of events. "We have brought together organizations who can communicate their competencies relating to peace to the public."

The "Tools of Peace" weekend will officially kick off on October 2nd at the Montreal Women's Y with a panel entitled "Building a Youth Movement for Peace". Moderated by Francois Bugingo, the panel will feature experts in the field who will present their thoughts on the ways toward effective youth action for peace.

Prior to the Dalai Lama's conference on October 3rd, the public is invited that morning to a guided tour of an exhibit and to artistic activities. The public will be able to get to know what resources in the field of peace education are available locally by visiting the various kiosks set up in the Bell Centre.

On October 4th, practical training related to peace and non-violence will be available free to the public. Workshops will focus on a variety of themes including meditation and community involvement, and they will look the practical aspects of building social peace-building consensus, non-violent actions and citizen intervention.
