PowerStream Inducted as One of 'Ontario's Environmental Leaders'

Electric Utility and Warren's Waterless Printing Join Select Group of Companies

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 29, 2010) - Minister of the Environment, John Gerretsen, officially welcomed PowerStream and Warren's Waterless Printing today as the latest additions to Ontario's Environmental Leaders (Leaders) program, a Ministry of the Environment initiative that recognizes and showcases companies who go the extra mile to help preserve the environment by reducing their own impacts through improving business processes and increasing efficiencies.

In an induction ceremony held at PowerStream's head office, the electricity distribution company and Warren's Waterless Printing became the eleventh and twelfth companies to be accepted into the program. The list of previous Leaders program inductees include Exhibition Place, Steelecase, Fielding Chemical Technologies, GM Canada, Nalco, Teknion, Trillium Health Centre, Rohm and Haas, Ontario Power Generation (Niagara Plant Group) and Cargill.

"Today we are congratulating two Ontario-based businesses that are environmental stewards," John Gerretsen, Minister of the Environment, said. "Warren's Waterless Printing and PowerStream prove that protecting our environment makes good business sense. I urge all businesses in Ontario to take the same approach to lower their emissions and energy use."

PowerStream, already recognized for its head office facility being the first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certified 'office' building in York Region, is committing to achieve annual conservation targets and reducing the amount of PCBs used in providing electricity to its customers in York Region and Simcoe County by 40 per cent by 2013. Other environmental actions include continuing to meet internationally recognized green building standards in the construction of new facilities as well as further reducing fleet and employee vehicle emissions.

"PowerStream's commitment to being a leader in environmental initiatives is embedded within the company's vision statement," Peter Meffe, Chair of PowerStream's Board of Directors, explained. "Being recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as one of Ontario's Environmental Leaders is an honour and consistent with how we continue to approach our business operations."

Meffe also mentioned several of the awards and recognition PowerStream has received over the past year for its environmental and conservation initiatives including the 2009 'Smart Commute Employer of the Year Award' for North Toronto/Vaughan, the Ontario Clean Air Alliance's 'Peakbuster Award' for utilities and the Electricity Distributors Association's 'Environmental Excellence Award'.

Warren's Waterless Printing's recent environmental actions include reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 15 per cent in 2009 and reducing electricity use by 20 per cent by 2010. Warren's printing process eliminates the need for water and conserves an estimated 200,000 litres of water annually.

"Warren's Waterless Printing is proud to be a member of Ontario's Environmental Leaders program," Glen Warren, Vice President of Warren's Waterless Printing, said. "Every possible impact on the environment is addressed at Warren's, from recycling, conserving water, reducing volatile organic compounds, to powering the presses with clean, renewable energy. Warren's is a pioneer and remains a leader in environmentally friendly printing."
