TACOMA, WA--(Marketwire - November 5, 2007) - On Wednesday, Nov. 7, port workers, longshore workers, truckers and others at the Port of Tacoma, Wash., will become the first workers in the region to enroll in the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program. The program's goal is to ensure that any individual who has unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities and vessels has received a thorough background check and is not a security threat.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Coast Guard and Port of Tacoma will provide an opportunity for media to preview enrollment the day prior to the start of general enrollment. Reporters will see port employees providing their biographical and biometric information so they can receive their credential.
