Printers Vote 100% in Favour of Union Recognition

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2008) - Unite, the UK's largest union representing newspaper and media workers, has announced that production workers at newspaper printers, Newsquest, Worcester have voted 100% in favour in a ballot for union recognition in a recent ballot conducted by ACAS.

Alison Jones, Unite Regional Organiser said: "This is an overwhelming mandate for union recognition and collective bargaining at the company. The 100% result in favour of union recognition is a product of our activists' commitment and enthusiasm. It clearly demonstrates that Unite members want an active union in their workplace and a voice at work."

Unite already has agreements with other Newsquest sites across the UK and now represents thousands of members and has full union recognition at many newspaper companies, following de-recognition of the unions by newspaper publishers in the late 1980s and 1990s, Ted Scott, Unite Regional Officer, said: "This is a great achievement for all our members at Worcester who now have a framework in place to start negotiating with the company on issues that matter to them."
