BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 23, 2009) - ProMutual Group, a leading provider of medical liability insurance, announced today it has recently completed its annual philanthropy series with a total donation of more than $300,000 to physician health programs in several states where it currently operates. The company selected the programs based on how closely they align with the company's goals to promote physician well-being and patient safety. Donations were distributed to the following programs throughout 2009:

-- The Professional Assistance Program of New Jersey
-- Medical Professionals' Health Program of Maine
-- The Vermont Practitioner Health Program
-- Connecticut State Medical Society's Physicians Health and Education
-- Rhode Island Medical Society's Physician Health Services Fund
-- Pennsylvania Medical Society's Physicians' Health Programs
-- New Hampshire Professional Health Program
-- Massachusetts Medical Society's Physician Health Services

The beneficiaries of ProMutual Group's donations share the mission to promote physician well-being and patient safety through efforts to educate, identify, treat and assist healthcare providers experiencing health problems. The aim of the programs is to be a resource to healthcare providers and assist them in recovery so they may continue their roles as caregivers.

The impact of physician health problems resonates throughout the healthcare community and spans personal and professional relationships. Recognizing its critical importance, ProMutual Group has been a committed contributor and provided more than $2.5 million over the past 10 years to physician health programs in several states where the company operates. ProMutual Group cited an even greater need for physician support considering today's challenging and changing healthcare environment.

"We believe in the importance of these programs and the benefits they provide the healthcare community and patients," said Gregg L. Hanson, chief operating officer for ProMutual Group. "As a long-standing supporter of physician health programs, we recognize that now more than ever, physicians are in need of help too. We are proud to demonstrate our commitment to the healthcare community in a way that gives back to physicians while promoting patient safety."
