Prominent Lawyer Receives Top Canadian Bar Association BC Honour

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 20, 2008) - Last night, lawyer Marvin Storrow QC, of the firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, received one of the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch's highest honours, the Georges A. Goyer, QC Memorial Award. The award was presented to Mr. Storrow at the 2008 Bench & Bar Dinner in Vancouver.

The Goyer Award was created in 1992 to recognize exceptional contributions to the legal profession, to jurisprudence or to the law in British Columbia. The award was established in memory of Georges A. Goyer, QC, a respected member of the BC Branch who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Over 25 leaders of British Columbia's legal community wrote letters supporting Mr. Storrow's, nomination for this award. They applauded him for consistently exemplifying the best traits of the legal profession: dedication towards excellence, devotion towards service to clients and to the legal profession, and unwavering integrity.

Upon receiving this award Mr. Storrow remarked that the practice of law, "Carries with it a duty to give something back to the public, (and) each of us has the ability and talent to make a difference in the Community outside of our day-to-day lives as lawyers."

One of his most significant contributions has been in the area of Aboriginal law where he has truly influenced and altered the British Columbia and Canadian political and legal landscape.

CBABC President Miriam Maisonville, who chaired the selection committee, said, "Marvin Storrow, QC, is exceptionally deserving of this year's Goyer Award for not just his legal contribution to existing jurisprudence, but his volunteerism on behalf of other lawyers. Mr. Storrow is a recognized leader in numerous legal areas particularly Aboriginal law, and 'white collar crime'. His contributions are recognized in all courts, from our Provincial Court to the Supreme Court of Canada."

The Canadian Bar Association is the professional organization responsible for representing the interests of more than 37,000 members in Canada, including 6,300 lawyers in British Columbia.
