Protectus Medical Devices Adds to Its Intellectual Property (IP) Portfolio by Filing Patent for Its "Living Hinge," a Key Component in the Functioning of the Company's Safety Dental Syringe, Safety IV Catheter and Safety Phlebotomy Devices

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - February 4, 2010) - Protectus Medical Devices, Inc. ("Protectus Medical Devices") (OTCBB: PTMD), a developer and marketer of innovative medical devices, announced today that the Company has filed a patent for its "Living Hinge," a critical component in the functioning of the Company's Safety Dental Syringe, Safety IV Catheter and Safety Phlebotomy devices. The innovative Protectus Safety Syringe is designed to significantly reduce or eliminate accidental needlestick injuries that have plagued the healthcare workplace for decades.

"The Living Hinge is a significant addition to Protectus Medical Device's Intellectual Property portfolio," said Dr. John Salstrom, President and CEO of Protectus Medical Devices, Inc. "The Living Hinge's unique, innovative design by Jack Dillard, COO, has two opposing teeth that are spring-biased and clamp over a lip that holds the protective sliding sheath back to expose the needle during use, but which retracts automatically immediately after use. This patent, when issued, will afford the Company an additional layer of protection for our Safety Dental Syringe, Safety IV Catheter and Safety Phlebotomy Devices. We intend to continue to add value to the Company with additional patents in the near future."

The Protectus Safety Syringe is the only fully automatic, self-sheathing safety hypodermic syringe that currently meets all U.S. Federal Government and OSHA mandates designed to protect both healthcare workers and patients alike. It is designed to significantly reduce or eliminate accidental needlestick injuries that have plagued the healthcare workplace for decades.
