Public Safety Minister Toews Announces Appointments to the National Parole Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 22, 2010) - The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, today announced three re-appointments and one appointment to the Prairie Region of the National Parole Board.

"I am pleased to make this announcement, which reflects the federal government's commitment to ensuring appointments to the National Parole Board are based on merit and ability," said Minister Toews. "The National Parole Board is an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities, making it imperative that we appoint highly-qualified and committed people."

Marilyn Kenny of Drumheller, Alberta, has been appointed as a full-time member and designated as the Vice-Chairperson of the Prairie Region. Mrs. Kenny was first appointed to the Board as a part-time member in 2007. She was previously a Parole Officer with the Correctional Service of Canada at Drumheller Institution where she worked for 15 years. Mrs. Kenny was involved in the creation of the Trudy Lacombe Kidney Foundation and is a volunteer in many community organizations.

Guy LeBlanc of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. LeBlanc has 25 years of experience in corrections, working for the Government of the Northwest Territories, and the Correctional Service of Canada. He was most recently a Deputy Warden at the North Slave Correctional Centre.

Murray Allan Dodds of Calgary, Alberta, is re-appointed as a part-time member. He was first appointed to the Board in 2006. Mr. Dodds has 22 years of experience in various positions with the Alberta Department of Justice, including as a Probation and Parole Officer, Community Corrections Manager, District Director Correctional Services, and Deputy Director, Calgary Young Offender Centre.

Ian S. Fowler of Calgary, Alberta, is re-appointed as a part-time member. He was first appointed to the Board in 2006. Mr. Fowler has extensive experience in the energy industry, specializing in risk analysis, as well as strategic, operations and corporate planning. Mr. Fowler enjoyed a long career with ConocoPhillips Canada/Gulf Canada Resources Ltd.
