Q3 Mobile Base Station Contracts at 134 as HSPA+ Begins to Gain Momentum

3G Contracts at 54.5% While 2G Trails at 36.6%

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2009) - Total contracts awarded within the wireless industry for Q3 reached 134, up 19.6% from Q3 2008 levels and down 14% sequentially according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research, titled "Global Base Station Contract Analysis, Third Quarter 2009."

"Nokia Siemens Networks secured 55.2% of total contract awards during the September 30, 2009 ended quarter, beating Huawei (19.4%) and ZTE (14.9%). Ericsson kept its momentum in North America going with a LTE win at MetroPCS. Chinese OEMs captured 34.3% of overall contracts in Q3, down from 38.5% in Q2," says founder and President, Earl Lum.

"Demand continues to remain concentrated in Asia Pacific with China, India, and Vietnam being the most active countries. Chinese OEMs continue to dominate the CDMA2000 segment as they captured 94.1% of global contracts in Q3. Nokia Siemens Networks led the way with 65.2% of total WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ awards but Huawei led the HSPA+ segment with seven contracts. 3G/3.5G/3.75G/4G contracts were 63.4% of total contracts," says Lum.

The base station contract analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the global cellular/PCS base station contract awards and demand for mobile base station equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel Networks, and ZTE.
