Queen's Park media conference Jan 17, 10:30 a.m Equal Pay Coalition

Pay Equity Act is 20 years Old. Ontario Women still earn 29% Less than Men. Equal Pay Coalition Calls for Action to Close the Pay Gap.

Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Jan. 16, 2008) - On January 1, 2008 Ontario's Pay Equity Act celebrated its 20th Anniversary. While progress has been made, gender-based pay discrimination is still widespread in Ontario. Over four thousand women have signed post cards calling upon the Ontario government to take all necessary steps to close the 29% pay gap. The Equal Pay Coalition will be bringing those cards to Queen's Park on Thursday January 17, 2008.
The Equal Pay Coalition has invited Premier Dalton McGuinty to Queen's Park to receive these cards and outline his Government's specific plans during the 20th Anniversary year and thereafter to end gender-based pay discrimination in Ontario. NDP Leader Howard Hampton and Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory have also been invited to outline their plans to work with the Government on this urgent human rights issue. At a media conference at 10:30 a.m. Mary Cornish, Chair of the Equal Pay Coalition, will outline the Coalition campaign to bring pay equity to all Ontario women. She will be joined by:

Wayne Samuelson, President of the Ontario Federation of Labour, and
Representative, Ontario Coalition for Social Justice
