Quova Announces Findings From Quocirca Research Report

"Customers in the Real World" Report Shows That Online Retailers Can Benefit From Localizing Their Offerings

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2009) - Quova, Inc., the leading provider of IP geolocation data services, today announced the findings of a Quocirca research report entitled "Customers in the Real World." The report, written by leading primary research and analysis company Quocirca, examines the benefits of using geographical Web site targeting for online businesses. Using a fictional organization called Things-4-You, the report demonstrates the opportunities available to businesses once they understand where their Web visitors are located. The full report, authored by Quocirca analysts Bob Tarzey and Louella Fernandes, is available for download immediately from

The fictional Things-4-You retailer exemplifies the type of business that can benefit from knowing where their Web visitors are located. The report uses the story of Things-4-You to demonstrate the potential marketing and sales benefits of IP geolocation for any online retailer, but especially one that also has bricks and mortar stores. Examples are given on how personalizing web visits can engage visitors and provide a link between online customers and real world stores, and how location can also be used to detect online fraud during the transaction process.

"The majority of online businesses make no connection between their online visitors and the geography to which they are serving content and yet it seems like such an obvious step to take, especially those with actual bricks and mortar retail outlets that could be set to benefit from such a connection," commented Bob Tarzey, Service Director, Quocirca. "Just by factoring in a simple Web service, businesses could automatically provide a local landing page, or point visitors towards their real world shops, thereby converting online researchers into offline buyers -- a concept that many are not currently able to deal with."

In addition to the Quocirca report, Quova has also made available a range of free educational online tools and a library of useful resources about how using IP geolocation technology, including a demonstration Web site for Things-4-U that gives the uninitiated a first-hand feel for the difference that effectively implemented content localization can make to a Web site.
