RCN Supports the Local American Red Cross, Joins Tonight's Beach Bash & Splash Fundraising Event

LEHIGH VALLEY, PA--(Marketwire - April 9, 2010) -  RCN PA, a local provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, has donated $55,000 to the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley (Red Cross). RCN PA committed $50,000 in donated cable time to air public service announcements supporting the nonprofit's Haiti relief efforts and its Beach Bash & Splash at Cabaret & Cuisine 2010 benefit.

The Beach Bash & Splash will be held tonight from 6pm - 10 pm at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Fogelsville. The beach-themed event will include a silent and live auction as well as food and music.

RCN's $5,000 grant recognizes the company as a participant in the Red Cross' HEROES campaign and a proud Community Partner. The company plans to avail itself to the Red Cross' disaster planning review as well as their preparedness and training programs, which help to save lives and empower people to respond to life-threatening emergencies.

"The Red Cross has been there for our neighbors when they needed it the most," said RCN-Pennsylvania Vice President and General Manager Randy Nungester. "So, we are happy to help them raise funds to assist them as they respond tirelessly to local, national and international calls for help." Nungester added, "RCN PA lends its financial and in-kind support to a number of local charities and nonprofits."

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley provided disaster relief assistance, lifesaving training, military assistance and information and referral to more than 70,000 people in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. "We are grateful for RCN's support," said American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley Director of Communications Janice Osborne. "It enables us to continue our work to provide relief to victims of disasters here in the greater Lehigh Valley and to meet our mission to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies at home and across the world."

In response to the earthquake in Haiti, RCN Corporation committed $282,000 in television time to run Red Cross public service announcements across all its markets. To provide further support, RCN employees raised nearly $5,000 through fundraising activities.
