REDFLEX Traffic Systems Installs 1000th Camera

REDFLEX Camera Systems Have Proven Effective at Improving Roadway Safety

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - November 5, 2007) - REDFLEX Traffic Systems Inc., the national leader in photo-based traffic safety solutions, announced it has installed their 1000th photo enforcement camera in the United States. The 1000th camera was placed at the intersection of Archer and Pulaski in Chicago. The city now has 120 REDFLEXred® camera systems at dozens of intersections in the city and is the largest photo enforcement program in the U.S.

Independent statistical analysis by The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety from 2005 found that red light-related crashes resulted in more than 800 deaths and an estimated 165,000 injuries annually. In an earlier study, the institute found that red light cameras offer a significant deterrent effect while reducing the number of actual violations by 40 to 50 percent.

Since the first red light cameras were installed in Chicago in November 2003, the entire program has seen a dramatic 41 percent average reduction in red-light violations.

Public opinion regarding the use of red light cameras is favorable, according to past polling conducted by the Campaign to Stop Red Light Running, where 83 percent supported usage.

REDFLEX Traffic Systems has achieved significant interest and growth, having signed 80 new municipalities in the last twelve months, bringing the total count to nearly 180. With 1,000 systems installed, REDFLEX is the largest photo enforcement vendor in the United States with nearly double the number of installations of the next nearest competitor. This momentum is expected to increase as municipalities engage these proven technologies increasing community safety and achieve the multiplier effect of 24/7 automated enforcement allowing law enforcement officers to focus on other important enforcement duties.
