REMINDER-Media Advisory: SEIU Local 2-Press Conference-Students Support Security Officers Push for Safety Improvements at Securitas

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 26, 2010) - The Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) – Nova Scotia, is supporting a campaign by Securitas security officers to improve safety and other standards in the industry.

"For students safety is a primary concern and this service is invaluable," said Elise Graham, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students, Nova Scotia. "It provides a secure space we can use to complete class work and develop our practices." Graham says better quality jobs for security officers will increase professionalism and lessen turnover, which will benefit students.

Security officers employed by Securitas say improvements in standards are needed in the industry and their voices will only be heard once they've been able to form a union. Halifax security officers will be joined by students in calling on Securitas to respect workers' rights and play a positive role in raising standards.
