RONA Shows Support for the Children's Aid Foundation, One JJ Bear at a Time

ETOBICOKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 4, 2009) - RONA inc. (TSX:RON), the largest Canadian retailer and distributor of hardware, renovation and gardening products, has partnered with the Children's Aid Foundation for a second year in a row, to sell the renowned JJ Bear - a cute and cuddly teddy bear - across its Ontario stores in support of abused and neglected children.

100% of proceeds from sales will be applied directly towards supporting the Children's Aid Foundation educational programs for children in Ontario, with funds directed back to the communities where they were donated. JJ Bear is available for sale until December 30th in participating RONA stores across Ontario, including RONA Home and Garden, RONA Cashway, RONA Lansing and Noble Trade, for the price of $10. It can also be purchased online at as of today. RONA stores are also accepting donations on behalf of the Children's Aid Foundation.

A long-time partner of the Children's Aid Foundation through the RONA Foundation, RONA is selling the JJ Bear - a symbol of comfort and security to children when they are hurt and upset - for the second year in a row. Since its inception in 2005, the JJ Bear initiative has raised over $470,000 to help disadvantaged children across Canada. RONA's objective is to raise $70,000 through the program in 2009.

"We are extremely grateful for the support RONA and the RONA Foundation have shown the Children's Aid Foundation," said Peter Lee, Chairman of the Children's Aid Foundation. "Every year, 300,000 children in Canada are at risk of abuse and neglect and we are committed to reducing this number through prevention, enrichment and education. Since 2000, the RONA Foundation has provided us with donations totalling over $400,000, helping us continue to assist the most disadvantaged children in our communities."

"We're confident we'll reach and even exceed our ambitious goal of $70,000 in sales by December 30th, which is the amount we collected last year, added Doug Adlam, RONA's Vice President of Operations, Proximity stores, Ontario.

"Our RONA store employees are thrilled to be working with the Children's Aid Foundation, a reputable charitable organization, in raising funds that will directly benefit children in their communities," said Luc Rodier, RONA's Vice President of Operations, Big-box stores, Ontario.
