At the eighth annual Mobius Environmental Awards ceremony in Halifax, Nova Scotia Wal-Mart stores were recognized as the 2006 Tire Retailer of the Year. The Mobius Environmental Awards, presented by the Resource Recovery Fund Board (RRFB), commend Nova Scotians who have made a significant contribution toward protecting the environment.

Through its partnership with the Nova Scotia Used Tire Management Program, Wal-Mart was recognized for its efficiencies in managing and reporting tire environmental fees and for its diligent compliance with its tire stewardship agreement. Wal-Mart Canada operates Tire and Lube Express centres in twelve of its fourteen stores across the province of Nova Scotia.

"We are honoured to be named RRFB's Tire Retailer of the Year in Nova Scotia," said Perry Miller, district manager for Nova Scotia Tire and Lube Express centres. "From recycling tires, batteries and cardboard to using energy-efficient lighting in our stores, Wal-Mart Canada is committed to becoming a responsible steward of Canada's resources."
