Reappointment to the Blue Water Bridge Authority

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 5, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced the reappointment of Mr. Charles Chrapko of Sarnia, Ontario, as president and chief executive officer of the Blue Water Bridge Authority for a term of four years.

"I am pleased that Mr. Chrapko has agreed to continue in his role with the Blue Water Bridge Authority," said Baird. "His extensive business and management experience, and his knowledge of the Authority's operations are great assets to the board and its mandate."

"Mr. Chrapko has brought significant business expertise to the board of directors, and I am pleased that he will continue to do so," said the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State (Transport).

Mr. Chrapko holds a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Waterloo. After graduation, he worked as a sales representative for Molson Breweries in Windsor, Ontario, for eight years. In 1995, he became co-owner and vice-president of operations of Howell Data Systems, a software services company based in Vaughan, Ontario. He sold his interest in the company in 2005. Active in the community, Mr. Chrapko has coached both girls' and boys' soccer teams in Sarnia.

The Blue Water Bridge Authority, which has a four-member board of directors, is the owner and operator of the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge. The Michigan Department of Transportation owns and operates the American side. The bridge, which has existed since 1938, spans the St. Clair River between Point Edward, Ontario, and Port Huron, Michigan.
