Rebuilding Together Detroit and The Pepsi Bottling Group Repair The Samaritan Center

DETROIT, MI--(Marketwire - August 5, 2008) - Rebuilding Together Detroit and The Pepsi Bottling Group worked to repair and improve The Samaritan Center this past weekend. Rebuilding Together and nearly 30 PBG volunteers provided improvements to the center's courtyard that included laying new brick pavers, sanding and staining tables, and gardening. The Samaritan Center offers a multi-faceted community resource center for neighborhoods in Detroit's East Side and serves about 10,000 people a week.

"At PBG, our employees set the community outreach agenda. They identify local organizations that mean something to them and to their families," said Scott Henzi, Area Vice President and General Manager of PBG's Michigan Market Unit.

Henzi continued, "In Detroit, we wanted to support the Holy Cross Children's Services Center because of how many children and families benefit from the center's services. By partnering with Rebuilding Together, we were able to create a special project that was meaningful for Holy Cross and took advantage of PBG's specific skills and resources. It has been a great experience for all of us at PBG."

The volunteers also made improvements to the center's kitchen which included a fresh coat of paint, cleaning and improving the lighting in the area.

Through volunteerism, financial support, product donations and civic engagement, The PBG Foundation strives to leverage the unquenchable spirit of the company's 70,000 employees to improve the lives of families and neighborhoods in need. Since 2002, PBG employees have collectively spent over 40,000 hours volunteering to support a wide range of charitable causes. The company allocates more than $18 million to financial and product donations every year.

The Samaritan Center is one of five projects that The Pepsi Bottling Group and Rebuilding Together will complete. Other locations include San Antonio, TX; Seattle, WA; Essex County, NJ; and Tampa, FL.
