Rebuilding Together Peoria, Sears and Kmart to Improve the Lives of Military Families at Home

Local Military Veteran to Benefit From Heroes at Home(SM)

PEORIA, IL--(Marketwire - April 24, 2008) - On Saturday, April 26th more than 60 volunteers will make renovations and repairs to the home of Gary Shehan, an Army Veteran who served as a firefighter for the City of Peoria for 29 years. The project is part of Heroes at Home, a joint effort of Rebuilding Together and Sears Holdings Corporation. Heroes at Home seeks to improve the lives of military families in need across America by making necessary repairs, improvements or modifications to their homes.

"We are extremely excited and proud to team with Sears and Kmart to assist military veteran families in our community," stated Tom May, President of Rebuilding Together Peoria. "Throughout his career, Gary volunteered to provide assistance to disabled firefighters and families of fallen firefighters and his union has sponsored projects for Rebuilding Together Peoria for more than a decade, we are happy to be able to give something back to someone who has given us so much."

Gary is one of the 70 veterans whose homes will be renovated by Heroes at Home on Saturday in celebration of National Rebuilding Day, and one of hundreds who will benefit from the program with the nearly $4 million raised by Sears and Kmart customers last year.

Rebuilding Together, Sears and Kmart volunteers will repair the home's roof and interior ceilings, which have been damaged by prior leaks. They will also fix broken windows to help lower energy bills. The program has also arranged for the replacement of the home's electric service panel and the addition of outlets and lighting to enhance the homeowner's safety. Much of the renovation work has been in progress for several weeks and will culminate Saturday with volunteers completing interior painting, exterior painting and landscaping, in celebration of Rebuilding Together's National Rebuilding Day.

Rebuilding Together Peoria continues to generate support for low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly, the disabled, military veterans and their families by providing home repairs, improvements or modifications.
