Record Number of ATCO Companies Honoured for Safety

Total Commitment to Safe Workplaces Critical ATCO Focus

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2007) - An unwavering commitment to workplace safety has resulted in a record four ATCO Group companies being honoured as "Best Safety Performers" in the province.

Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Council (OHS) recognized ATCO Power, ATCO Pipelines, ATCO Midstream and ATCO Frontec amongst 284 Alberta employers with exceptional records in workplace health and safety in 2006.

The awards are presented to Alberta companies that hold health and safety at the forefront and have the performance to prove it. Last year, three ATCO companies received the prestigious safety recognition.

"ATCO Group is unwavering in our commitment to the safety of our people in the many diverse businesses we operate," said Nancy Southern, President & Chief Executive Officer, ATCO Group. "Exceptional safety performance has helped make ATCO an employer of choice for people in our home province."

Ms. Southern cited additional examples, such an unblemished safety record without a single lost work incident for the past six years at ATCO Power's Sheerness Generating Plant with more than 2.2 million hours worked, and ATCO Noise Management's perfect safety record for ten years on projects around the world.

In making the announcement, Iris Evans, Minister of Employment, Immigration and Industry, said: "Traditionally, many Albertans choose employers based on factors such as location and salary. This extra attention to workplace safety helps a company stand out as employer of choice in the competitive environment and in the recruitment of staff."

Tim Bennett, Chair of the OHS Council, which advises the Minister on matters related to the health and safety of Alberta workers said: "These employers are the cream of the crop when it comes to safety performance and their ongoing work to keep Albertans safe is worth celebrating."

The Best Safety Performers Awards complement the priorities of Work Safe Alberta, a unique partnership between industry, labour and government that has reduced Alberta's workplace injury rate by 25 percent in the last five years. An integral part of the initiative is promoting workplace health and safety by increasing public awareness, which is one of the key actions under Premier Ed Stelmach's plan to provide safe and secure communities.

ATCO Group, an Alberta based worldwide organization of companies with assets of approximately $7.8 billion and more than 7,000 employees, is comprised of three main business divisions: Power Generation; Utilities (natural gas and electricity transmission and distribution) and Global Enterprises, with companies active in industrial manufacturing, technology, logistics and energy services.
