Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, Media Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ON, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Dec. 28, 2007) - This Dec 28-30, The Annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Convention returns once again to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (South Building). With an average annual attendance of 15 000 participants, RIS draws a very diverse group of attendees and generates a great deal of economic activity within the city.

Beyond the crowds, RIS also brings together a stellar group of Muslim and Non Muslim scholars and intellectuals from around the globe to discuss key themes and pressing issues. Prominent past members include Toronto Mayor David Miller and renowned author Robert Fisk. This year's theme is "Family: The Basis of a Civil Society". Speakers will discuss how societal issues can be tackled through positive family structure and interaction.

"Family has always been the core foundation of all civilizations," comments RIS Press Secretary Nadir Shirazi, "the deterioration of this integral structure can be directly and indirectly linked to societal challenges."

This year RIS is proud to welcome among others, global scholar Hamza Yusuf , Warith Deen Mohammed (son of Elijah Mohammed) who is credited with reconciling the Nation of Islam with mainstream Islam, and special guest Pamela Paul, contributor to Time Magazine and author of the book "Pornified: How Pornography Is Transforming Our Lives, Our Relationships and our Family."

In addition, to celebrate the spirit of Islamic justice and charity, the RIS Convention will be holding two large scale humanitarian efforts. On Saturday Dec 29th a fundraiser to sponsor orphans around the world will be held in association with Islamic Relief Canada, and on Sunday Dec 30th the conference will be holding one of the largest single day food drives ever for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
