Rhode Island Business Plan Competition Kick-Off Set for Oct. 5

PROVIDENCE, RI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 21, 2006 -- The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition today announced that it will host a kick-off meeting on Oct. 5 to introduce and explain the 2007 competition -- and help prospective applicants prepare to compete for $125,000 in prizes.

"We've expanded the number of workshops this year, building on last year's highly successful events, which proved to be informative, entertaining, and a great way to network and meet fellow entrepreneurs," noted Competition Co-Chair Charles Kingdon.

The event, which is free to the public, will be held 5 - 7 p.m. at the offices of Brown Rudnick, 121 No. Main St., Providence. Pre-registration is required, and may be completed online at

In addition to learning about changes in this year's competition, attendees will hear from the winners of the 2006 competition, Axon Sleep Research Laboratories and PEK Wireless Systems, who will share their experiences from last year's competition.

In addition, Ann-Marie Harrington, president of Embolden Design, an award-winning Web development and consulting firm based in Pawtucket, will speak on "From Business Plan to Profits."

Harrington launched Embolden in 1998 following successful careers in public policy and social services. Since then, she has built Embolden into a thriving company and now serves more than 150 active customers. Last May 2006, Embolden received the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, establishing the company as one of the best places to work in Rhode Island.
