Rio Cristal Zinc Appoints Juan La Cruz V.P. of Exploration

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 5, 2008) -


Rio Cristal Zinc Corp. (the "Company" or "RCZ") (TSX VENTURE:RCZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Juan La Cruz of Lima, Peru as a Vice President of Exploration, effective August 4, 2008.

Charles Ushela, President and CEO of Rio Cristal Zinc Corp, said, "We are excited to have Juan La Cruz join the Rio Cristal Zinc team. He brings over 30 years of exploration and mining experience in Peru and Latin America, much of it in management positions with international mining companies. The Board of Directors and I believe he will do an outstanding job in directing the current field work and drilling at our Cristal, San Jose and Florida exploration projects."

Mr. La Cruz received a B.Sc. and Engineering degree in geology from the San Marcos University in Lima, Peru in 1978. After working for a decade as a field geologist for a number of base metal companies, Mr. La Cruz joined Minera Tocopilla in Chile in 1989 as head of the geology department. In 1992 he joined Noranda Inc. where he served as Senior Project and Exploration Geologist responsible for copper and gold exploration in Chile and later as Senior Exploration Geologist and Office Manager for the Company's Peruvian office. During his time in Peru, he was involved in the evaluation of several exploration projects and operating mines such as Antamina, Cerro de Pasco, Michiquillay, Colquirjirca, and Tres Cruces.

Mr. La Cruz later worked as a contract geologist for such companies as Normandy, Newmont and Placer Dome spearheading exploration projects in Peru. In 2004 he joined South American Management SAC, an exploration service provider, where he was promoted to General Manager in 2008.

The Company also announced that Miroslav Kalinaj, Vice President of Exploration, has resigned from the Company to pursue other interests, effective August 4, 2008. Mr. Ushela said, "We wish Mr. Kalinaj well in his future endeavors." Mr. Kalinaj has agreed to act as a geology consultant for the Company for the balance of the year.
